Footprints in the Sand

Footprints linger in the sand….till the tide of time wipes it away.

…..I guess I was never there after all.

(The picture is taken at Kovalam beach in Kerala. I approached the water alone, as my family did not want to wet their legs. It felt nice — I remember, standing there, alone, staring at the vast blue ocean in front of me, till the point where it touched the sky).

Photography 101 – Bliss

Last year in November we went to Kerala on a family vacation. The state has often been called ‘God’s Own Country’ by the industrious tourism industry, but after our trip I can’t say I dispute. It is one of the most beautiful, indeed perhaps the most beautiful place, I have ever been to. While enjoying a leisurely ride on a shikara in the gorgeous backwaters, certain lines kept playing over in my mind:

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree,
And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made;
Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honey-bee,
And live alone in the bee-loud glade.
Innisfree 1
And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,
Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;
There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,
And evening full of the linnet’s wings.

Innisfree 2

I will arise and go now, for always night and day
I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore;
While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements grey,
I hear it in the deep heart’s core.

Sunset at the Beach

The call was unexpected to say the least – “Hey, wanna go over to Juhu beach?”

“Why” I asked.

“Just”, she said. “I want to click the sunset”.

It was summer vacations, and I did not really have anything better to do. A trip to the beach with my camera and best friend sounded pretty awesome. I agreed. We went and clicked away to glory…much to the bemusement of the passer-bys. A group of boys actually asked me if we were from some magazine, doing a photo shoot. I don’t think they believed me when I told them we were doing this just for fun, and because we liked photography.

The pictures lay in some elusive niche of my computer hard disk till today, when I saw the Photography 101 assignment for the day: Water.

I tried out a different technique that day. Shooting a picture through a pair of sunglasses – better than any filters you can apply!

Photography 101 – Home

It wasn’t that I wanted to go home,

Who knew home? I only knew alone.

What I wanted was to be elsewhere,

Somewhere, anywhere but there.
